New Lemon Greenhouse Launched in Almaty Region

A modern greenhouse facility for growing lemon trees has been launched in the village of Avat, Enbekshikazakh District, reports the press service of the Almaty Region Akimat. The project is the first of its kind in the district and is aimed at developing greenhouse agriculture and strengthening domestic citrus production.

The greenhouse complex covers an area of one hectare and is designed for year-round lemon cultivation in a fully closed environment. The first harvest is expected in two years. Once operating at full capacity, annual production may reach several tons.

The project was initiated by entrepreneur Yuriy Paskalov. In the spring of last year, he constructed the greenhouse on a one-hectare plot and planted 1,200 lemon saplings. Total investment amounted to approximately 500 million tenge, financed from his own funds. The facility is equipped with modern climate control systems that ensure stable temperatures throughout the year.

A key feature of the greenhouse is its fully closed operational cycle across all four seasons. During winter frosts, optimal temperatures are maintained inside, while in summer advanced cooling systems prevent overheating. This technology creates favorable conditions for steady tree growth and high-quality yields.

According to the entrepreneur, initial production is expected to reach 25–30 kilograms of lemons per tree. As the trees mature, yields may increase to up to 100 kilograms per tree.

Yuriy Paskalov spoke about the technologies used in the greenhouse:

“I brought the saplings from the city of Shymkent. Currently, drip irrigation technology is used in the greenhouse. The complex is heated with natural gas, which allows us to maintain a constant temperature. Two assistants are working with me at the moment. With proper care, we will see the first harvest in two years,” the entrepreneur noted.

Representatives of local authorities reported that repairs to the access road leading to the greenhouse complex are planned for the spring. In addition, once the products enter the market, the issue of state subsidies will be considered.

The Akim of Avat Rural District emphasized the long-term nature of the project.

Momynzhan Islamov, Akim of Avat Rural District:

“From the state’s side, we are ready to consider subsidy mechanisms after the products are harvested and enter the market. This is not a one-year project. Since the farm operates as a peasant enterprise, additional state support measures will also be available. The entrepreneur has plans for further development,” said the district Akim.

In the future, the entrepreneur plans to expand the lemon greenhouse complex to an area of up to five hectares. The project is expected to contribute positively to agricultural development and job creation in the Almaty Region.
